James Buchanan Elementary School

Kindergarten marks the beginning of a child's academic career. During the school year, children are provided with experiences that promote social, emotional, physical, and academic growth. They are taught letters, letter sounds, numbers up to twenty, and 100 words from the Fry 1000 word list. Students will use Kidwriting to practice writing their letters, sound out words, and express themselves. Individual needs and differences of each student are met throughout the school day, and emphasized during "Halftime." Students do many fun and entertaining activities throughout the year, such as pumpkin picking, performing at the Mother's Day Tea, and participating in the Lift-off to First Grade ceremony.
