NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND REPORT CARD
The PSSAs are Pennsylvania's response to the Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Math and Reading are the only tests that count toward a school's Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), although the Writing and Science tests are important in helping us assess our own progress.
PSSAs begin in Mid-February with State Writing Assessments and continue into April with Reading, Mathematics and Science Assessments.
The preliminary scores for the 2009-2010 school year are out. It is with great pleasure that we announce that all district schools made AYP. This has particular meaning for Clara Barton Elementary School, which is no longer in School Improvement status. This changes some things for the Barton Students who chose to attend Fitch or Washington. Transportation to and from these schools was provided by funds from Title 1. Now that Barton has made AYP, Title 1 is no longer responsible for this cost. Barton students who wish to remain at either Fitch or Washington must provide their own transportation. They may also return to Barton, where transportation will be provided. Letters explaining this change were mailed on Friday, August 6, to those families affected.
Congratulations to the Barton staff and students. They have worked very hard to achieve. Keep up the good work.
