The technology department’s mission is to understand the technology needs of our students and staff. We’re committed to providing the latest tested and approved technology to our students and staff to facilitate an enriched learning experience. Technology changes at a rapid pace, but we’re ahead of the curve…. · Overhead projectors are in many classrooms throughout our elementary schools o A small sample of benefits are § CPS software, which utilizes small remotes are given to each student to allow them to answer questions asked from a simple PowerPoint presentation, take attendance, or grade homework. Encouraging full engagement of student body. § Watch video in high definition or view education sites on the internet § Large screen for all students to an unobstructed view · Smart boards have been installed in almost every classroom throughout our middle schools which o Provides an interactive method of learning o Allows instructors to create to their own interactive programs · Polycom high-definition teleconferencing equipment o Allows students to utilize our high speed internet connection using internet 2 to conference with people across the globe. o Group projects with NASA and over 200 education sites · Gigabit fiber lines to each school provide extremely fast communication between buildings o Our return on investment has been tremendous. This technology results in an advanced data center that reduces wasted time in both the classroom and research area. o One domain that allows users to log in anywhere and have access to their files. · Gigabit down to the desktop o During the summer of 2009 we deployed approximately 50 switches to the high school and middle school attaining the highest speeds available and the highest technology standards. · The deployment of 360 laptops to our elementary schools o Laptop carts will have the latest software complete with high speed wireless access and printing abilities. · With the installation of computerized cash registers o Students are able to prepay on their accounts for future use and wait times have been greatly reduced. o Parents can restrict the type of foods they wish their child to have because of allergies or dietary concerns. · New student information system provides o The ability for parents to receive text messages about absence, homework, and when grades are available for online viewing. A culmination of these technologies has enabled a tech savvy generation to learn in a way no other generation has. Our current technology inventory at a glance 1. 3,000 desktops 2. 900 laptops 3. 15 servers We’re doing everything we can to save our taxpayers money and help the environment · Many of our computers are automatically powered down each night at 8 PM · The recently replacement of every CRT in the school district to LCD for a tremendous savings in utility costs. · We take advantage of remote software to help users quickly and efficiently with a staff of only 3 full time and 4 part time employees.
