School Wide Postive Behavior
School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (SWPBIS) at Clara Barton Elementary School
School Rules:
1) Be Respectful.
2) Be Safe.
3) Be Ready and Responsible.
In 2008, Clara Barton Elementary School instituted a school-wide positive behavioral intervention and support program that recognizes students who are demonstrating the desired positive behaviors we are encouraging through the use of paw print tickets. This program creates a school-wide climate of respect, safety, readiness, and responsibility. Through this program, students are more academically engaged, and there is an increased sense of community purpose within the school.
Paw print tickets are worth one point. Staff members present students with paw prints if they are demonstrating expected behaviors in classroom, in the hallway, in the cafeteria, and at recess. Paw prints are exchanged for privileges and prizes. There are several “levels” of exchanges. For example, 25 points equals a shirt (which is required for the first purchase), and participation in “Wacky Wednesday” equals 15 points. Teachers also have their own classroom prizes/activities (board game day, extra recess, or craft day). There is a monthly “menu” of special events in which the students can participate in, if they have the amount of tickets needed (e.g., Fall Fun Night centers or lunch with Santa). There are also opportunities for students to go to the “Pride’s Den” once every other month to purchase tangible items (e.g., stuffed animals, pencils, puzzles, and jump-ropes).
